Let's start the FIRE ROBINSON CLOCK now. He hasn't made any improvements in his time here. He has actually taken the program back 5-10 years. After we start 1-4, the athletic department should make the necessary change and start looking for his replacement. That will allow us to find the best candidate for the job. We need to go HIGH PROFILE in order to bring some recognition to this program. It's in Shambles right now.
Who is actually going to take the Syracuse job? Is Goldie Hawn available? She did a heck of a job turning around the Wildcats. Maybe Mike Hopkins can run the football program until Coach Boeheim turns over the keys to the basketball program? I never thought I'd long for the days of George DeLeone (ok, maybe i've gone to far)
I think we need to let the season play out before we start calling for Coach Robinson's job. They might turn things around this. If Winnie Cooper dated Kevin Arnold anything is possible.
Sometimes teams surprise you just when you least expect it. Coach Rob has his fourth year, he gets to play with the guys he brought into the program. Lets see what they've got. Hopefully the team shows improvement. Where we need the most help is in recruiting. The rise of CT and Rutgers have crushed the Orange in our typical recruiting hotbeds of New Jersey and CT. We've got more competition and no longer are a given for a big time recruit from the North East. The first thing we have to do is improve the talent we bring into the program.
I have no idea what to expect on Saturday, which makes this all the more interesting.
Best-case scenario, Robinson gets lame-duck treatment by Week Seven, and Dr. Gross --assuming he's smart enough -- can begin his coaching search before every other BCS school. Look how well it worked out for UNC. Do you think they rue going 3-9 in 2006? No. They got Butch Davis out of it, and now they're pre-season 2nd place in the ACC. Would UNC have had a shot competing for Butch Davis against Alabama, etc., had they not begun courting him in October instead of December? Making Bunting a lame duck was the best decision UNC could have made. If we're going to crash and burn, let's at least make it constructive. Maybe Dr. Gross can milk his USC connections and get Norm Chow.
When Gross took over and fired coach P and gloated about it on national televison, I sent an e-mail to the 'Cuse athletic Department asking that he be reprimanded--or fired. To my shock, the A.D. himself answered in an email, (which should have told me how crazy the guy is) defending himself and reminding me he brought Pete Carroll to USC. We argued back and forth.That was two (?) years ago, and now the football program at Syracuse is a national disgrace. I'm old and have been a fan since the Jim Brown and Ernie Davis days--football put your school on the national map. How long will you let this creep wreck a great American institution?
